Midwives in training – Academy of Midwifery
Within our practice, we regularly supervise students in training to become midwives. We see that it is badly needed to reduce the shortage of midwives in the Netherlands in the future, but we also find it very important and instructive to supervise new midwives. In this way we also stay well up to date in terms of theoretical knowledge. A number of our midwives are also teachers at the Academy of Obstetrics in Maastricht. It is therefore possible that during your pregnancy, during childbirth or in the puerperium you will meet a midwifery student from various years (the course takes 4 years). Of course, you are always free to inform us if you prefer not to. We respect this of course. It is very important for the students to gain experience, because you don’t learn our beautiful profession with only theory! Our midwives are always there as a supervisor, so many women experience it as a very nice addition.
