Follow-up appointments during pregnancy

At the beginning of your pregnancy, we determine together what your care path will be. This will help give you an overview of which tests and check-ups are necessary in your pregnancy.

Checks

The first checkups are often a little shorter in succession. This depends on what ultrasounds are needed and whether you opt for prenatal screening. Usually in the first weeks you come for checkups every 3-4 weeks. This becomes increasingly more frequent. At the end of your pregnancy you will have weekly check-ups. Sometimes more or less check-ups are necessary. The midwife will discuss this with you.

Conversation

During each check-up, among other things, you will be asked how you feel and how you are experiencing the pregnancy. You can then also express your questions, expectations, wishes and perhaps fears. It is useful to prepare for each check-up. For example, write down all your questions in advance. During the course of your pregnancy, your midwife will discuss the delivery in detail. Any results of ultrasound or blood tests will be discussed at the next check-up. If there is reason to inform you of results earlier, we will of course contact you.

Physical examination

At each visit, the growth of your uterus is checked. The midwife does this by feeling your belly with her hands. In the last months of the pregnancy, the midwife also feels the baby’s position and measures the growth of the uterus with a centimeter.

  • A doptone on your abdomen is used to listen to the baby’s heartbeat starting at the 3rd month.
  • In the final weeks, it is felt whether the baby’s head or possibly the buttocks (if breech) are descending into the pelvis.
  • Blood pressure is measured at each check-up.
  • If you are past 20 weeks, we would also like to know if you feel the baby moving.
