What is a contraceptive ring?

A Contraceptive ring is a contraceptive that you insert into your vagina yourself every 3 weeks. Like the birth control pill, this flexible plastic ring contains hormones (estrogen and progestogen) that keep an egg from being released from your ovaries, protecting you from pregnancy. You wear the birth control ring for three weeks, after which you have a ring-free week. During that week, you get your period.

  • You cannot use an Contraceptive ring if you are breastfeeding.
  • You can steer a little bit with it when you have your period.
  • You shouldn’t mind having to insert the ring into your vagina yourself.
