Cost of contraception

The costs you incur for contraception are split between the care we provide and the contraceptive itself. Our care is often (partially) reimbursed by your insurer. You often have to pay for your contraceptive device yourself. Sometimes it is also (partially) reimbursed. Ask your insurer what applies to you. Read more about reimbursements below.

Contraceptive device reimbursed?

(Any) reimbursement for your contraceptive coverage depends on your age:

  • Up to age 18: Contraception is covered by basic insurance. You pay no deductible, but sometimes a co-payment.
  • 18 to 21 years: Contraception is covered by the basic health insurance. You do pay a deductible in this case. Do you have to pay a co-payment for your pill? Then you can take out additional insurance.
  • 21 years or older: Contraception is not covered by basic insurance.

Tip: Calculate whether it is wise to insure yourself for contraception. Exactly how high these amounts are for you and what reimbursement you get depends on your health insurance policy. Are you curious about how exactly you are insured and what your health insurance company reimburses? Then contact your own insurer.
