Our tips & advice

Most of the time, this complaint is harmless. If you sleep with your hands folded, the moisture from your hands cannot escape, and you will wake up with thick hands that tingle and prickle. Splinting your hands before going to sleep, such as with wrist guards like those used in rollerblading, may then be a solution.

Lie down in between

If you suffer from thick legs/feet at the end of the day, take some time in the afternoon to lie down. Only lying down gives your body a chance to drain the fluid. Sitting down with your legs elevated is not a good choice. You then pinch off the vessels in the groin, which still prevents the fluid from getting out.

Drink a lot

Drinking plenty of fluids to flush out your body is also important now. Above all, don’t start drinking less! Nettles help as a diuretic, purify the blood and excrete toxins. You can obtain this as a tea, however, do not drink more than a few cups of this tea per day.

Less salt and sugar

Also use little salt and sugar, these retain moisture. If it’s hot outside, stay mostly in the shade and take a cold foot bath.
Pay extra attention if symptoms combine with headaches, severe nausea, starry vision or pain or a tight feeling just below your breasts/ribs. Read more on the high blood pressure page.
