Our tips & advice

Drink at least two to three liters of fluids per day. Eat varied and especially high-fiber foods (brown bread, brown rice, raw fruits and vegetables, granola, etc.). Some natural remedies you might try for relief:

  • A glass of warm water on an empty stomach
  • A cup of coffee on an empty stomach
  • Dried plums and figs are well-known laxatives
  • A handful of flaxseed, such as in yogurt or flaxseed bread
  • Activa yogurt
  • Roosvicee Laxo
  • Daily exercise stimulates bowel function

If medications are needed for constipation during pregnancy, bran, psyllium, sterculi gum, lactitol, lactulose and macrogol are preferred. Number of medications are available by prescription only. Ask your doctor for advice. Do you have further questions about constipation during pregnancy? Then feel free to ask the midwife. She will be happy to tell you more.
