Women often look back on their childbirth more positively when they choose their own posture. So change your position regularly! Your partner can play an important role in this, because you yourself do not always know what you like. He or she can help you try and alternate between different postures.

Different birthing positions

Giving birth can be done in different ways and in many different positions. In fact, varying positions is often helpful. You can handle contractions and give birth on your back or on your side, but also standing, squatting, on the bar stool or on your hands and knees. You can also give birth in the bathtub. Before you give birth, think about what would be comfortable for you. In the leaflet Which posture suits you, you can find some examples of positions in which you can handle contractions or push.

Giving birth in the bathtub

Hot water has a lot of benefits! Using the shower long and often during your labor can be very helpful. It soothes labor pain and helps you relax between contractions. Many women experience the relief of contractions lying in a bathtub as pleasant. You are literally carried by the warm water, allowing you to move more smoothly and also unwind between contractions.
