The maternity week
To monitor your recovery, there will be daily check-ups by the maternity nurse. We as obstetricians also like to follow you up in the postpartum period. This means that in the first week after the birth we will visit you at home several times to see how you are doing. We discuss the delivery with you, how you experienced things, and during these visits we check your uterus, blood loss, blood pressure, temperature and control. We also check how your baby is doing and discuss the checklist that the maternity nurse also follows up with you. Together we keep an eye on the temperature, color, defecation, urination and weight and discuss how the (breast) feedings are going. Your baby will be weighed a few times during this week by the maternity nurse. During the maternity visits we can give practical tips and information and answer your questions.
The first 6 weeks
We are responsible for you in case of complaints related to pregnancy or childbirth in the first 6 weeks. You can always contact us by phone. After 6 weeks we have a follow-up check. This is an appointment at the practice to talk about the care received, answer questions, discuss wound/scar check-ups and contraception. If you have had stitches, we can review how this has recovered. We also check your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. We give tips and advice on getting started with sports and how to possibly get pregnant again in a healthy way next time.

Were you fully supervised by the hospital during pregnancy?
Also in this situation you are welcome to register at 040verloskunde for postpartum counseling, with a follow-up appointment after 6 weeks if desired. You will then meet one of our midwives at your home shortly after your delivery. The hospital will inform us when you can go home after your delivery. Should problems still arise with you or your baby, we will consult with your hospital doctor. You can register for this prenatal care during your pregnancy. It is also important to register with a maternity care organization.
