The difference between a 3D or 4D ultrasound
With a 3D ultrasound, using the latest technology, several 2D images are taken at the same time and turned into 1 image by software in the ultrasound machine, giving your baby a beautiful image. With 3D, it is somewhat more common that the baby’s position and movements prevent you from getting an optimal image of your baby.
In a 4D ultrasound, 3D recordings are played back in sequence to create a moving image. A video image in which you can see your baby in motion. You can clearly see when your baby is yawning or sucking his/her hand.

A 3D ultrasound can be done throughout the pregnancy. It is important to know that between 15 and 24 weeks your baby is still thin, which is also visible on the ultrasound. The best time to have a 3D ultrasound done is between 25 and 32 weeks. Your baby will have a fuller face by then, so you can sometimes already see who the baby resembles. You decide at which term you would like to admire your baby, sometimes even at 39 weeks we still have beautiful images.

Ultrasound is a safe technique we use to visualize organs in the body. Another name is ultrasound examination. Ultrasound consists of high-frequency waves emitted by an ultrasound head. The internal organs bounce these sound waves back, making them visible on a screen. During an ultrasound, your midwife looks at the baby, the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid.

With a 3D/4D ultrasound, you can really get to know your baby a little already. Especially the face is nice to see when the baby wants to lie down in front of it. Special to be able to have a look inside your womb!

Early 3D ultrasound
Even early in your pregnancy you can see your baby beautifully in 3D. It is still very small, a fetus, and is increasingly becoming a miniature human being.
