Starting at 14 weeks, we use a sex determination ultrasound to look at the gender of your baby. The preferred term is around 15-16 weeks, so you can see it a little better yourself. Because at these terms, the genitals are of course still tiny. It is also a very nice time to look at the baby, everything is already there, the baby moves a lot and still fits completely on the image. If the baby is not in the right position during the ultrasound to see what it is, you can come back another time free of charge(come back guarantee). You can also expand your sex determination ultrasound with a 3D photo of your baby! Then choose the deluxe sex determination ultrasound.

If you like it, you can expand your 2D sex determination with a 3D photo of your baby. Then choose a deluxe sex determination. Because the gender of your baby at this term is still very small, it is only visible in 2D. It is very beautiful to be able to see your baby in its entirety in 3D!

Our tips & advice

If your BMI is higher than 30, it is wise to schedule the sex determination ultrasound at 15-16 weeks gestation, as we have a better chance of actually seeing the gender then. It is nice if you can come to the ultrasound with a full bladder. If your baby is not in the right position to see the gender then, you can go pee and the position of your baby often changes as well.

Don’t know the gender right away yet?

If you prefer not to know the gender yet, it is of course also possible to get a sealed envelope with it, so you can choose the moment you want to know what you will get.

Frequently asked questions about the sex determination ultrasound

When can I know if I am having a boy or girl? From 14 weeks the gender can be visible with an ultrasound. At 14 weeks, the baby is big enough and the difference between a boy and a girl is clearly visible. The larger the baby is, the clearer the gender can be visualized. So you can schedule an appointment for a sex determination from 14 weeks. If you have a BMI above 30, a 15 or 16 week term is preferred. For all sex determination ultrasounds, there can never be 100% certainty.

It may happen that the baby lies in a certain position e.g. a kind of tailoring (they also call this the fetal position) or that the legs are close together, so that the gender is not visible. If this is the case, we offer you a come back guarantee, this means that we will schedule a new appointment for a new attempt to visualize the gender free of charge. 040verloskunde accepts no liability for any incorrect estimation of the gender.

You may always bring family or friends to the pretecho. Enjoy together!
